English and Maths tuition in Kolkata, for Classes 1 to 10.
I'm Neel. In person around Bonhooghly, Dunlop and Belghoria — or online, anywhere.
I'm studying for a BSc in Statistics and a BA in English, which is why I teach both subjects.
Who I teach
Classes 1 to 10 — English, Maths, or both.
Any board — CBSE, ICSE, WBBSE, or otherwise. I can work with the syllabus the student is already following.
Who I don't teach
Classes 11 and 12. By then, most students are preparing for competitive exams, while my teaching is focused on the textbook syllabus.
I also only teach English and Maths. Those are the two subjects I specialise in, so I don't take on other subjects.
How sessions work
In person or online. In person around Bonhooghly, Dunlop and Belghoria — I come to the student's home. If you're outside those areas, online works just as well.
Two sessions a week, per subject. Each session is two hours. With younger students I break that up with shorter tasks and pauses. A student taking both English and Maths has four sessions a week.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Weekends are kept free for make-up classes when a session has been missed.
What happens in a session
Each session works on one topic at a time. I explain it in Bengali and English, then we work through examples together until the student can do them on their own. At the end I leave a practice sheet built around that topic.
I set tests through the year and mark them with written comments, not just a score.
Right now I have space for two more students.
What it costs
Fees are monthly, per subject.
| Classes 1–5 | ₹500 a month |
|---|---|
| Classes 6–8 | ₹800 a month |
| Classes 9–10 | ₹1,000 a month |
That covers two sessions a week, the practice sheets, and the tests with written feedback.
Taking both subjects means paying for both. A Class 7 student taking English and Maths is ₹1,600 a month.
About me
I'm Samudra Jhinuk — most people call me Neel.
I tutor English and Maths privately in Kolkata, alongside studying for a BSc in Statistics and a BA in English. I make my own teaching materials rather than working from a single guidebook: explanations in Bengali and English, worked examples, and practice sheets built around the specific thing a student is stuck on.
I set regular tests and mark them with written feedback. If an explanation isn't working, I rewrite it rather than simply repeating it.

A few questions I'm often asked
Will you come to us, or does my child come to you?
I come to you. Sessions happen at the student's home, which means no travel at the end of a school day.
My son is weak in Maths but fine in English. Can you teach just one subject?
Yes. Plenty of students take only one. Two sessions a week, and the fee is for that subject alone.
What if we have to miss a week?
I'll make the sessions up at the weekend. Weekends are kept free for exactly this.
